Exhibit Openings - A Curious Nature: Paintings by Shelley Reed, A Feast of Beasts, and Mr. Reinford’s World
March 12th, 2017 1:00-3:00 P.M.
The Fitchburg Art Museum will be lively as ever as it officially opens three unique and interesting exhibitions, A Curious Nature: Paintings by Shelley Reed, A Feast of Beasts, and Mr. Reinford’s World.
Boston-artist Shelley Reed’s A Curious Nature is an immersive display of black & white oil paintings on canvas that are larger than life. It needs to be seen to fully be appreciated. Although color is omitted in the artwork, her skillful attention to detail more than makes up for it with the subjects having such life-like features and expressions – it’s as if they’re caught in motion. The exhibition, on display until June 4th, highlights some of Reed’s pieces from over the past decade along with some never before seen work painted exclusively for the Fitchburg Art Museum.
A Feast of Beasts is an exhibition showing the art from a number of artists, and it captures the ways in which people have collected and consumed animals. The presentation shows a wide variety of sample objects that offer a historical and geographical insight to the ways that people have depended on animals throughout time. A Feast of Beasts will be on display until September 3rd.
Mr. Reinford’s World centers around Fitchburg-artist Lionel Reinford, a well-respected educator and community activist of the region. Mr. Reinford began painting with some basic instruction before finding his signature style by observing art. Born in Honduras, Mr. Reinford’s paintings capture memories from his childhood along with local landmarks and landscapes from his travels across the United States and the World.
